Best time to visit Puerto del Carmen
Puerto del Carmen works well for most of the year because Lanzarote has a warm climate, low rainfall and sunshine through practically the whole year, with an average annual temperature of about 21°C. That makes the resort a genuine year-round beach destination rather than a short summer-only season. Which season suits you best depends on whether you’re chasing heat, value, quiet beaches or a lively atmosphere.
Spring (March to May)
Spring is one of the easiest times to recommend for a Puerto del Carmen holiday. Temperatures are warm enough for the beach without the intensity of high summer, the resort is noticeably quieter than July and August, and prices for flights and hotels tend to sit below peak-season rates. It’s a good window for longer walks along Los Pocillos, exploring the rest of the island, and generally getting more space on the beaches.
Summer (June to August)
Summer is best if you want the hottest, liveliest version of Puerto del Carmen. It is also when the resort celebrates the Virgen del Carmen festivities in the first weeks of August, a tradition linked to the fishing heritage of the town and known for boat processions. Autumn (September to November)
Autumn mirrors spring in many ways: warm sea temperatures carried over from summer, thinner crowds, and generally better value than the peak months. It’s a strong choice for couples and older travellers who want reliable beach weather without the summer buzz.
Winter (December to February)
Winter is when Puerto del Carmen really earns its reputation as a winter-sun destination. You won’t get mainland-Europe heat, but you do get mild temperatures, long daylight and a much easier beach break than most of northern Europe can offer at the same time. It’s consistently one of the most popular reasons visitors choose Lanzarote over other Canary Islands in the colder months.
