Where to Stay in Puerto del Carmen

Where to stay in Puerto del Carmen: best areas explained

The best area in Puerto del Carmen depends less on distance and more on the kind of holiday you want.

Stay in Old Town / Varadero if you want a more traditional setting with harbour views, seafood restaurants, terraces and easier access to the historic side of the resort. This is the part of Puerto del Carmen that still feels closest to La TiƱosa, with its fishing and port identity still visible around Varadero.

Stay around Playa Grande if you want the classic resort experience. This is the busiest and most central part of Puerto del Carmen, where the beach, promenade, shops and restaurant scene all meet. Playa Grande also has strong services, including lifeguards, showers, toilets, umbrella hire, playgrounds and sports areas, so it works for first-time visitors who want everything close at hand.

Stay around Los Pocillos if you want more space and a calmer atmosphere. Los Pocillos is wider, longer and less crowded than the central beach, and the official family guide also highlights it as one of the best beach areas for families thanks to calm water, access and nearby facilities.

My simple rule is this: couples and repeat visitors often do well around Old Town or the quieter ends of the strip, while first-timers and short-stay visitors usually prefer the central Playa Grande area.
